Can the Pistons trade for D’Angelo Russell with Stephen Curry’s injury?
Warriors deal to compete
Weathering the storm is far more likely for a Warriors organization that moved into a new arena and is hard-capped.
Addressing a need in the frontcourt is far more likely then stripping it down to add depth pieces and several young pieces.
This deal is simpler.

Golden State could add a two-way center with Drummond, who is a strong defensive presence, the league’s best rebounder and is continually improving his offensive game. The ability to re-sign him to a maximum contract while retaining his bird rights gives the Warriors a formidable starting lineup that will get them in contention conversations again.
A healthy Curry and Thompson to pair with Green and Drummond is solid.
Why the Pistons do it
Detroit gets its playmaker for the future in Russell, someone they’d be certain to sign to a second maximum contract when his newly-signed one expires. That doesn’t appear to be the case with the Pistons right now, though in a transitional year are smart to see how things play out. It’s a business, after all.
The Pistons would still have upwards of $25 million in expiring contracts to address its frontcourt and wing woes to try and get back in contention.
What do you think, Pistons fans? Would you be willing to deal Doumbouya or Luke Kennard in a potential deal for Russell?
Warriors fans, would you rather tank or blow it up? How would you evaluate either of these trades?
