Derrick Rose

Derrick Rose is another curious case. It’s evident that he wants to win a championship after believing he could do it in Detroit. But there’s a season-and-a-half left on the two-year deal he signed last summer.

The 31-year-old guard proved with Minnesota that he can play off the ball but with the Pistons he is proving he still is an explosive point guard. He excels at driving but, most notably, he’s having a career-best season passing. His assist rate is 44.5% and his turnover rate is 14%, the lowest since the 2011-12 season.

The guys at The Sixer Sense have designs on trading for Derrick Rose. It’s possible that he has the highest trade value on the team. A possible return from the Sixers could include Zhaire Smith, the 20-year-old rookie who is shooting 37.5% from 3-point range in six appearances.

Though it’s truly hard to say. He’s more affordable than Clarkson’s $13.5 million contract but his is expiring and teams would be bringing Rose in for another year, too. There are a handful of point guards available in free agency in 2020 but trading for Rose now could be a huge asset.

Orlando and Indiana are teams that could be in the market for a backup point guard to elevate them. Sure, the Magic have D.J. Augustin but Rose could be an impact guard and his improved assist rates could elevate other Orlando offenses.

The Magic could flip Augustin as a $7.5 million expiring and add in second-round picks. Adding in Khem Birch could provide the Pistons a legitimate backup center option moving forward, though the 27-year-old is having the worst year of his three-year career with his rebounding rate and true shooting percentage dropping with a larger workload.

Other teams to watch out for are the Boston Celtics, Dallas Mavericks and Miami Heat as teams that could look to bolster their bench backcourt.
