10 takeaways from the Detroit Pistons first half of the season
9. Trade SZN
The next four weeks will be critical for the Detroit Pistons. The organization simply doesn’t have enough assets for a quick turnaround. There’s a good base with Doumbouya, Kennard and Brown but does their timeline fit? Time will tell as they accumulate assets.
Making trades need to be deals that obtain assets that will be for the betterment of the future. Galloway is an expiring contract with a quick trigger. The sharpshooter is converting 39.8% of this 3-point attempts. It’s possible that Rose, who is having his best season post-ACL tear, could fetch a nice return with another year under contract.
It’s no surprise that the biggest domino that could fall is Drummond. He may control the market – both at the trade deadline and in free agency. He’s likely the top unrestricted free agent that will hit the market, provided Anthony Davis makes good on his promise to re-sign with the Lakers.
If the Pistons can’t fetch a first-round pick or a young asset that fits the front office’s plan, then maybe Drummond becomes a part of their plan or opts-in and they’ll get to try again. Or even there’s a sign-and-trade possibility over the summer.
