With the first pick in the draft, the Warriors would have multiple options that could be justified.
For the longest time fans had speculated that they’d select James Wiseman, but after a recent appearance on the “Raising Fame” podcast, Toppin’s parents said that they want their son to be drafted by Golden State.
While in the end this may not mean much, (although it did work for Lonzo Ball) it would allow the Warriors to continue to play small the way that they had in years prior. They could have an opening night lineup consisting of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Andrew Wiggins, Toppin, and Draymond Green.
Toppin is a force in the post and led a Dayton team this season who had one of the best offenses in college basketball. His versatility and explosion on offense is what could make him the top pick in the draft.
The Warriors went from making five consecutive NBA Finals, to bottoming out in the league due to the number of injuries they suffered.
The fact that they’ll so quickly be able to return to form next season with the addition of whoever they select in the draft is bizarre.
If it’s Toppin, if it’s Wiseman, it won’t particularly matter. Golden State won’t be going away any time soon.
