Detroit Pistons: Will it be Saben Lee or Dennis Smith Jr.?

One of the most interesting positional battles on the Detroit Pistons is for the future backup point guard role.

Both Saben Lee and Dennis Smith Jr. have shown signs that they should be the guy but both have also showed big flaws in their games that need development.

Casey has been shuffling them back and forth for most of the second half of the season, and both have been starters and come off the bench in that time.

Lee caught a DNP in the last game with Casey opting to go with DSJ in the starting lineup and Killian Hayes off the bench.

Hayes is the starter of the future so Lee and DSJ are really batting to be his backup next season. After giving DSJ the reigns in the last game, it will be interesting to see if Casey goes with Lee to give him a chance as well.

Ultimately, it would be nice for him to choose someone so that the Detroit Pistons can start to build chemistry between the guys who are definitely part of the future of the team, but until someone seizes this role he will probably go with the committee approach.

Saben Lee got some words of encouragement from Damian Lillard the last time the two teams played, so we’ll see if he’ll get another shot against the future Hall of Famer.

The Detroit Pistons have 20 games left starting tonight and have plenty left to prove.
