Detroit Pistons: 20 things to watch in the last 20 games
Detroit Pistons: What to watch down the stretch
- Saben Lee is in a battle with Dennis Smith Jr. for a potential backup point guard position next season. I would give Lee the edge just because he was a second-round draft pick and will be much cheaper than DSJ next season. I also think Lee has the potential to be better, so it would be nice to see him separate himself from the pack a bit.
- Is Jahlil Okafor worth keeping around as a 3rd center? He is slow as a house and can’t defend but the guy is a bucket in the post. The question is whether anyone cares about the post game anymore.
- Frank Jackson has mostly played off the ball recently and has earned a chance at the backup shooting guard role for next season. His outside shooting is the best of his career and he is hitting just over 43 percent from long range on a career-high 2.8 attempts per game. Will Frank Jackson be next year’s Wayne Ellington?
- Speaking of Wayne Ellington… would be be worth bringing back on a veteran’s minimum contract next season? He has shot the ball well and been a solid pro, things that Troy Weaver will appreciate. But will he appreciate them enough to bring the veteran back?
- The Detroit Pistons may have jumped the gun on Tyler Cook when they gave him a contract for the rest of this season and an option for next, but Troy Weaver must have seen something he likes. Cook plays hard, runs the floor and has some qualities that fit with Pistons. He is only 23 and if he pans out, would be another sign that Weaver has a sharp eye for undervalued talent.
