Detroit Pistons: Stability is good

The only thing consistent about the Detroit Pistons over the last decade or so is that they have mostly been terrible and that they’ve been through a LOT of coaches.

Since Rick Carlisle was fired in 2003, the Pistons have been through nine different coaches, most of whom were employed for under two years. Only Stan Van Gundy (ugh) lasted longer and we all know how that turned out.

If you look at the teams that are consistently good, almost all of them have one thing in common: Stability at coach.

It’s not a bad thing to have a coach that players like as one of the faces of your franchise. One of the reasons Joe Dumar’s time as Detroit’s GM fell apart was because he had a new coach every season, which is not only a bad look for the franchise, but doesn’t inspire any hope that you know what you are doing.

Players have had nothing but positive things to say about Casey and know that’s who they will be playing for if they sign here.

Troy Weaver won a bidding war for Jerami Grant last season partly because of Dwane Casey. This is how you build culture.
