Detroit Pistons draft picks: James Bouknight

Bouknight’s fit shouldn’t be much of a concern for Troy Weaver, as the Pistons just need to take the best talent available, so if Weaver selects Bouknight, it will be because he thinks he is the best player.

But he does fill a need, as the Pistons are abysmal offensively and need another scoring option to go along with Jerami Grant.

The problem is that Bouknight isn’t going to create space with his shooting, at least not right away, and the Pistons already have a bunch of slashers who can score around the rim but can’t shoot 3-point shots. Eventually they need to find some long-range shooting.

Ideally, they can draft a guy who will eventually be a 20 ppg scorer, as the Pistons already have a top-ten defense that they hope will be even better next season.

Bouknight is long and athletic, so he fits the profile of the types of guys Weaver seems to like, which are players who are versatile defensively and can guard up.

Of course we are all hoping that the Detroit Pistons get the number one pick so they can get the best player, but if they drop to 5 or 6, I could see Weaver taking someone who is slightly off the radar.

That player could be Bouknight, who has some of the skills the Detroit Pistons need. Either way, you can expect the unexpected if the Pistons drop out of the top four.
