Detroit Pistons: Jerami Grant’s trade value will rise with Olympics

I am very much against trading Grant at any point during the 2021-22 season. He will again be the best player on the team, and one of the only veteran leaders on one of the youngest teams in the NBA.

But, with all the improvements that he’ll make, as well as a possible All-Star nod, this could all change by 2022-23, the last year he’s currently under contract.

If Grant suggests, for any reason, he’s unhappy in Detroit (and he has not so far), it makes sense to ship him out.

By then, he’ll be a proven leader and stud, and is well-liked by stars across the league. He’ll have shown rapid improvement and growth. This offseason, Pistons fans have seen some truly awful mock trades for the first overall pick, and this past season it was the exact same with Grant.

When he proves himself in Tokyo and shows growth, with a glowing recommendation from Pop and his teammates, Grant could be the biggest name during trade season in the coming years.

And we know general manager Troy Weaver loves to trade.

If Detroit still needs him, they can keep him and extend his contract. To be honest, that would be ideal.

But, if the young core really shows out and comes into their own, Grant could be moved, and Detroit could finally start to see mock trades that are actually fair. It sounds like a fantasy world, but if all goes well in Japan, it will be a reality sooner than we know it.

The Olympics are a chance for Grant to grow and be put in the spotlight.

Aside from the NBA Draft, what else is there to do in July for basketball fans? The Summer League is not starting until August, but are you really going to watch that anyway?

With Grant on Team USA, headlined by future Hall of Famers, all basketball eyes will be on Tokyo, where a certain Piston will be a major talking point.
