Jerami Grant enjoyed the best season of his seven-year NBA career in 2020-21 for the Detroit Pistons. The 27-year-old power forward put up near All-Star numbers en route to a bid for the Most Improved Player of the Year award. Grant fell short of the award, but his stellar play on the court earned him the respect of a star in the NBA.

Grant has certainly proven to be worth the three-year $60 million deal he signed in free agency last offseason. Few besides Pistons GM Troy Weaver expected the power forward to have a 20-plus point per game season. A year ago many people wrote off Grant’s contract signing as a gross overpay. Grant’s performance last season quickly turned that assumption on its head as his contract is now viewed as a bargain for the Pistons.

Detroit Pistons: Jerami Grant trade rumors are flying

This offseason, Grant has been the centerpiece of many media-generated trade proposals. It is the natural reaction of many media outlets when an All-Star caliber player is on a team with a poor record. Websites specific to any NBA team trying to contend have all thrown out their version of a trade that would net them the Pistons’ star.

The most common trait these media proposals share is their team gives up practically nothing in return for the 27-year-old. Many of these trade proposals are centered around draft picks that would undoubtedly be in the late 20s or a young prospect that has shown little to no value thus far in their career.

At this point, the terrible trade offers have just become annoying to Detroit Pistons fans. Grant has shown to be a valuable commodity in the NBA, not a player to be swapped for another team’s scraps. However, every now and then a proposal comes along that actually makes sense.
