Detroit Pistons starting lineup: More shooting inserted into the starting five

Dwane Casey has a lot of options after the Detroit Pistons signed Kelly Olynyk, as he can mix and match players who might be a better fit in the starting five.

The Pistons were the 26th rated offense last season, but had the 10th ranked defense in terms of points allowed, so we know their priority this offseason was to get more versatility and punch on offense.

This starting lineup would do that.

  • PG: Killian Hayes
  • SG: Cade Cunningham
  • SF: Saddiq Bey
  • PF: Jerami Grant
  • C: Kelly Olynyk

Beef Stew has headed back to the bench in favor of Olynyk and after watching Casey use Mason Plumlee as a starter all last season, I wouldn’t be surprised if this is the most-used starting five for the Pistons next season.

This lineup has playmaking and a ton of shooting, as Cunningham, Bey, Grant and Olynyk can all knock this down, which will benefit Killian Hayes as a playmaking point guard.

Last season, Hayes often had brilliant passes that didn’t end up as buckets, as he had 10.5 potential assists per game, most on the team.

In this starting lineup Hayes would be surround by shooters, which is the best way to take advantage of his passing and ability to penetrate.

I know fans love Beef Stew, but unless his shooting keeps improving, he is not going to provide the spacing that Olynyk will and might be better served coming off the bench unless the Pistons were to split up their playmakers.
