Detroit Pistons starting lineup: Killian Hayes comes off the bench

Casey has already made it clear that he considers both Cade Cunningham and Killian Hayes to be point guards, but also thinks they can thrive together and I agree.

Cunningham can play both on and off the ball and the Pistons experimented some with Hayes off the ball with Saben Lee running the point next season, so the two guards can absolutely play together.

But there is also an argument to having a playmaker in the second unit, which could lead to a starting five that looked something like this.

  • PG: Cade Cunningham
  • SG: Hamidou Diallo/Josh Jackson
  • SF: Saddiq Bey
  • PF: Jerami Grant
  • C: Isaiah Stewart

This starting five doesn’t have as much shooting, as Jackson and Diallo are not great from long range, but I love the defensive possibilities, as they would be able to switch on everyone and have a team of five guys who can guard multiple positions.

This would put both Killian Hayes and Kelly Olynyk on the bench, but I like them as a duo, as both are great in the pick-and-roll and could give the Pistons a very good scoring bench.

I think this starting lineup is the least likely of the three, but it shows just how much versatility there is and how many choices Dwane Casey will have.

The Detroit Pistons finally have enough talent to spread it around a bit and I expect we will see a multitude of starting lineups next season.
