If you are like me, then you grew up shooting on driveways and in playgrounds, dreaming of being a member of the Detroit Pistons.

If you are really like me, then you were dreaming of being Bill Laimbeer so that you could elbow Larry Bird in the teeth, but that’s for me and my therapist to sort out.

But for those who still have NBA dreams, the Detroit Pistons are going to give you a chance to make them come true.

Detroit Pistons: You can try out for the Motor City Cruise

The Pistons’ G-League affiliate, the Motor City Cruise are holding open tryouts that anyone can join for the fee of $200:

The GM of the Cruise will be in attendance (probably to make jokes about ya’ll), as will several member of the Pistons’ coaching staff and front office.

While I hardly think the next superstar of the NBA is going to come out of this tryout, it is a chance for the Cruise to connect with local fans and start to build a following by allowing them to participate in the action.

Having a G-League team in the city of Detroit should be advantageous for the Pistons, as it will allow them to call up guys like Luka Garza as needed.

It will also give the Detroit Pistons a chance to expand their fan base in the city, as they are still fairly new residents in the downtown area and are clearly trying to promote more locals to attend the games.

The Pistons have also put in regulations to stop out of city fans from buying tickets, so this is just another way to try and build the fan base from Detroit out instead of the other way around.

So polish off your old Jordans and sign up to try out for the Cruise. What can it hurt? I mean, aside from your back, knees, ankles and pride.
