Detroit Pistons and Indiana Pacers: Jerami Grant vs. Domantis Sabonis

It’s possible that the Detroit Pistons will use Grant on Turner since he plays away from the hoop more and allow Stewart to try and stop Sabonis, who is one of the best power forwards in the NBA.

If Grant is on Sabonis, his primary mission will be to keep him off the boards, as Sabonis grabs 11.5 rebounds per game including 3.1 on the offensive end.

Grant needs to try and keep Sabonis as far from the hoop as possible, as the Pistons would much rather have him launching threes than working in the mid-range or post, where he is very effective.

On the other end, Jerami Grant needs to try to wear Sabonis down by making him chase him all over the place. The Pistons should be running Grant off screens and looking for ways to get him moving towards the hoop.

Grant has a quickness advantage but will need to knock down some shots, as Sabonis is likely to sag off and dare him to shoot from long range rather than get burned off the bounce.

These two couldn’t be much different, so whichever player is able to make the other guy change his game will win this matchup. If it is played on the perimeter, advantage Grant, but if Sabonis lives in the paint he will kill the Pistons on the boards and with second-chance points.
