Detroit Pistons: Good News/Bad News

Cade Cunningham and Saddiq Bey

The good news for the Detroit Pistons is that Cade Cunningham put up his second solid game in a row and is really starting to put it together.

He has been taking fewer 3-point shots, instead taking it to the rim where he has a bag and can score from the paint or mid-range.

He was torching the Suns in the 3rd, pulling out all of his moves, scoring in traffic and ended the game with 19 points and five assists. His teammates are still letting him down in the assist category, but Cade is showing signs of superstardom and hasn’t played 20 games yet.

Be excited.

The bad news is that Saddiq Bey has been awful for a stretch now and looks completely bewildered.

It’s almost as if Cade syphoned Bey’s confidence, as Cade is looking like a star and Bey looks like he wants to punch a hole in the wall after every shot. Bey has been indecisive with the ball, a product of having no confidence to just let it fly.

He passed up a couple of open 3-point shots to try and put it on the floor last night, which is not what you want to see from a guy who is meant to be a sharpshooter.

I think Bey will figure it out, and I am glad that he is using a rebuilding year to try and add nuance to his game, but you’d also like to see him polish the things he did well last season and so far, he has not done that.

Cade Cunningham’s ascent has come as Saddiq Bey is at a low point, so the Pistons’ cosmic seesaw is balanced once again.
