How about promoting this year’s No. 1 overall pick, Cade Cunningham? Apparently the NBA office is not sold on him, yet. The Pistons also have two members of the USA Select team and (although injured, they don’t know it when schedule made) a member of the 2021 Olympic gold medal winning Team USA in Jerami Grant.

Is Detroit’s record good? Heck no, but, if looking to the future, they do have some named the league should want the general public start to get familiar with.

2. Detroit is a small market

Does the Detroit metropolitan area have as many TV viewers as New York, Los Angeles or Chicago. No, but it has more than Salt Lake City, and the Utah Jazz have a game. We know why Milwaukee is on the Christmas slate, defending champs and they have Giannis, but, still, it is a market smaller than Detroit’s.

The Pistons popularity exceeds its borders anyhow. The ‘Bad Boys’ and the ‘Goin to Work’ crew created fans worldwide of Detroit. On this Pistons site, on average, about 15% of the readers do not live in the United State, not the Detroit area, they reside outside the country..

You can not measure the Pistons popularity purely based on population. That is a fact, and something the NBA office should consider.
