When will Bol Bol make his debut with the Detroit Pistons?
You can’t blame fans of the Detroit Pistons for being excited about the addition of Bol Bol.
With only nine wins on the season and the occasional big outing from Cade Cunningham to cheer for, things have been pretty bleak in the Motor City, so the Bol Bol trade gave us something to look forward to in another woeful season.
Bol was traded from the Nuggets for Rodney McGruder and a late second-round pick, so it won’t cost the Pistons much to take a flyer on the 7-foot-2 Bol, who could make his debut as early as Friday at home against the Raptors.
Bol will get his first practice with the Detroit Pistons today and they’ll determine whether he is ready to go.
But what can we expect from the intriguing big man?
Bol Bol will likely play sparingly for the Detroit Pistons initially
Bol hasn’t played much this season, appearing in just 14 games for the Denver Nuggets, most recently on January 6th vs. the Jazz when he got a couple of minutes of mop-up duty.
He might need to get a few practices under his belt before he is ready to assume duties in the rotation, and even then, I can’t see him being more an a 15-20 minute guy at most.
There isn’t a ton of actual game film on Bol, but he has flashed the ability to shoot and pass to go along with shot blocking, and at this point the Pistons can use help from anywhere.
Dwane Casey at least seems intrigued about the possibilities:
I hate to break it to coach Casey, but there is no combination of players on his roster that offers shooting at every position, as the Pistons are one of the worst shooting teams in the NBA.
I could see Bol Bol slotted in as the backup power forward and he could also steal minutes as the third center, and either way, there might be interest in seeing how he fits with Cade Cunningham since there is a similar player in Chet Holmgren expected to go near the top of the 2022 NBA Draft.
Bol Bol certainly isn’t going to make the Detroit Pistons a contender, but he gives us something to look forward to other than Cade in an otherwise depressing season.
