Now is the time to bet Cade Cunningham for Rookie of the Year
Cade Cunningham of the Detroit Pistons has recently been making his case for Rookie of the Year.
After finally claiming the top spot on the Rookie Ladder, Cade was promptly injured against the Pelicans and is now listed as day to day with a hip pointer. It’s too bad, as the momentum was in his favor after recently being named Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month for January.
Hopefully the injury is not serious and he’ll be back in the lineup soon, as Cade was playing some of the best basketball of his young career.
He was propelled to the top spot on the Rookie Ladder by his game against the Nuggets in which he joined Michael Jordan in an elite club, and also by a 19 point triple double in a victory over fellow Rookie of the Year candidate Evan Mobley and his Cavaliers.
The Cade Cunningham vs. Evan Mobley debate has heated up of late, and you can make a solid case for either player depending on what you like.
One is doing everything for a bad team, putting up big numbers on both ends but doing it inefficiently, while the other has a more measured and efficient role on a good team that is headed for the playoffs.
I think it is a toss up at this point, but if you like Cade Cunningham to bring home the award, the odds are in your favor and now is the time to get a bet in.
Cade Cunningham’s Rookie of the Year odds
According to WynnBET, Cade Cunningham is +550 to win NBA Rookie of the Year.
If you are not familiar with American style odds, this means that for every $100 you bet, you will win $550, so the odds are better than five to one.
This is more than double the odds you would have gotten at the beginning of the season, when Cade was a favorite to win Rookie of the Year.
Now Evan Mobley is the favorite, with -250 odds, which means the books think this is his award to lose and they may be right.
If Cade Cunningham has to miss much time with injury or doesn’t continue to play at a high level, the award will probably go to Mobley, who is on the better team and has been putting up consistent numbers all season.
This is a value bet either way, as Cunningham and Mobley are essentially a toss-up for most voters and if all things are equal, the number one pick generally gets the benefit of the doubt.
Unless Cade’s numbers plummet or he misses a lot of time with this hip injury, this is the best his odds are going to be, so if you want to make this bet, now is the time to do it.
