How the trade deadline deals so far affect the Detroit Pistons and Jerami Grant
All three of these deals will have some effect on the Detroit Pistons and Jerami Grant.
The Portland Trail Blazers
It initially looked like the Blazers were trying to blow it up by trading off Powell and McCollum, but this may just be them trying to reload.
I was actually kind of surprised the Detroit Pistons weren’t involved in this deal as a third team, as Portland has been a team consistently connected to Jerami Grant.
Grant and Lillard are good friends and played together on Team USA, so he makes sense there, especially if they are trying to reload quickly around Lillard and whatever free agents they can snag in the offseason.
Keep an eye on the Trail Blazers over the next two days, as they might still be in the Grant market, though there are questions about what they would send back to the Pistons.
It would likely have to be a deal built around Nurkic, possibly one of the young players they just acquired and a draft pick, in which case the Pistons might just hang onto Grant.
The Sacramento Kings
The Kings were another team that was connected to Jerami Grant, but now that they have made the big trade for Sabonis, is it hard to see them still wanting Grant, though I wouldn’t rule it out.
Do the Kings think they actually have a chance to compete for the Play-In Tournament this season or are they trying to rebuild for the future?
If it’s the former, then Jerami Grant makes some sense, as a threesome of Fox, Sabonis and Grant does have some potential, but it’s unclear if they still possess enough assets to do a trade for Grant.
I wouldn’t 100 percent rule it out, but I think it’s unlikely at this point.
