Detroit Pistons: Players who could be affected by Carsen Edwards

Frank Jackson

The Detroit Pistons came into this season with high hopes that Jackson would emerge as the consistent scoring threat off the bench that they currently lack.

That hasn’t happened, as a combination of injuries and streaky shooting have diminished Jackson’s impact. He’s supposed to be the Pistons “lightning in a bottle” scorer off the bench, but is only shooting 31 percent from long range, a big drop-off from last season.

When Jackson is not scoring from long range, he provides little else, as he is not a good defender and doesn’t have the playmaking chops to be an effective point guard.

He is still a year younger than Edwards and the Pistons have a team option for him next season that is reasonable and could be a value deal if Jackson gets back on track.

But Edwards is a very similar player, has been more durable this season and has shot the ball more consistently from long range, even though it was in the G-League.

If the Detroit Pistons thought they could replace Jackson’s production for half the price and get a guy who is a more-consistent 3-point shooter, then I think they will consider it.

Frank Jackson has played well the last two games, which is good, as he may be battling for a spot on the rester next season.
