Detroit Pistons: Luka Garza’s future

The Pistons have six team options on players for next season and second-round pick Luka Garza is one of them.

Garza did his best to impress in his final game, as he scored 20 points and added 10 boards, four assists and a block.

But it took him 18 shots to get those points and he went just 2-of-7 from long range. He finished at just 32.7 percent from long range for the season, which is disappointing even though he didn’t every really get a chance to get into a rhythm.

Garza shot the same percentage from long range in the G-League on far more attempts, but did average 20 points and 10 boards in his 16 games there.

I have no doubt that Garza can dominate the G-League, but the question is whether he has the skillset to ever be in an NBA rotation.

He certainly has an offensive bag, toughness and has shown a willingness to rebound, but he is also slow as a barn and has problems staying in front of anyone on the other end.

Garza will have to continue to work on his body and quickness, as right now I just don’t think he has the lateral movement to defend in the NBA.

Garza will definitely get some more chances, but I could see him being left off next year’s roster depending on what happens in the Draft and free agency.
