The Detroit Pistons need another star or two

Regardless of what you think of Jerami Grant or Saddiq Bey, the Detroit Pistons clearly need more high-end talent and depth.

Bey was extremely streaky this season, so even though he did make improvements and show that he can be more of a threat offensively, he has to be more consistent to be considered a star in the NBA.

Same with Grant, who has also proven himself to be a quality role player, but is not a guy you can necessarily build around and has also quietly been very unreliable the last two seasons when it comes to staying on the court.

Some of these “injuries” were the Pistons trying to tank, but it has to be somewhat concerning that Grant only played in 101 games combined in the last two seasons.

Hopefully they will get a top pick in the 2022 NBA Draft and land another star to pair with Cade Cunningham. While I love Bey and Grant as high-end role players, the Pistons still need more talent on both ends.

The one thing they shouldn’t do is reach for that guy in free agency. While I love the idea of adding 23-year-old Deandre Ayton, even if it is on a max deal, paying a max to a guy like Miles Bridges or Jalen Brunson would be a mistake in my opinion, one that could eventually hold the Pistons back.
