How Julian Champagnie fits on the Detroit Pistons

The Detroit Pistons need to upgrade their bench scoring and defense. They have six team options this offseason and guys like Frank Jackson, Hamidou Diallo and Luka Garza could be jettisoned for players who offer more versatile skills.

Champagnie could give the Pistons a little more size off the bench and a guy who can get buckets in a variety of ways, including from 3-point range.

He has the size to defend multiple spots, falling into the category of Jamorko Pickett and Braxton Key-type wings that the Pistons have taken flyers on in the past.

I would prefer the Pistons load up on these types of big, versatile wings and hope one of them eventually sticks as a role player who can defend and knock down shots.

We’ve seen in the playoffs that versatile wing defenders are crucial, and Champagnie could evolve into that type of defense/hustle/3-point threat that all good teams have coming off their bench.
