2022 NBA Draft: Who the Pistons would take with the top-7 picks

Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Gonzaga. 64. Power forward. Chet Holmgren. 2. player

I think Smith and Holmgren (in some order) will be the top two guys for the Detroit Pistons in the 2022 NBA Draft.

Holmgren’s combination of rim protection and 3-point shooting are exactly what the Pistons need. I think the only red flag for Holmgren is his size, as there are questions of whether his slight frame can hold up to the rigors of an NBA schedule.

I am not so much concerned about Holmgren getting pushed around, as he’s shown he can be a shot blocking force even against bigger and stronger guys, but I do think there should be some concern over a guy like him being able to stay healthy.

There’s not a rich history of skinny 7-footers having longevity in the NBA, otherwise I think Holmgren is the clear #1 pick.

Pick Analysis. Guard. 3. player. Scouting Report. Purdue. Jaden Ivey. 64

I do think the Pistons would go against the “experts” here and take Jaden Ivey, as he just looks like the perfect fit at guard with Cade Cunningham.

Ivey would give the Pistons the scoring from the shooting guard position that they currently lack, a guy who can thrive off the ball next to Cade, and set the Pistons up with their backcourt for the foreseeable future.

It would allow them to keep Jerami Grant and go into next season with a solid starting five and a decent bench even if all they did was extend Grant and re-sign Marvin Bagley III.

I know a lot of people like Banchero here, and I think he’s going to be great, but Ivey is also a high-ceiling prospect and is a better fit.
