2022 NBA Draft: Who the Pistons would take with each pick
2022 NBA Draft: Who the Pistons would take with the top-7 picks
Do-it-all swingman Keegan Murray is a guy I think Troy Weaver would like, so it’s possible they would take him with the 5th pick instead of Sharpe.
Murray fits the Pistons’ profile as a long, athletic wing who can run the floor, block shots and shoot the 3-ball.
He’s the type of guy that would help any NBA roster, as he is unselfish, can score from all three levels, and is an energy guy who likes to play defense.
We are now well into the area of the 2022 NBA Draft where all things are on the table, including trading back for an extra first-round pick or even reaching for an unexpected player here.
A lot of people have AJ Griffin here, but I personally don’t see it, as he didn’t impress me nearly as much as Mathurin, who is far more versatile and could end up being the better shooter of the two even though Griffin had better shooting numbers this season.
Mathurin would give the Pistons a backcourt that was 6-foot-6 and 6-foot-7 to go along with Saddiq Bey, Jerami Grant and Isaiah Stewart, so they’d potentially have one of the most switchable defenses in the NBA.
Mathurin doesn’t have an elite skill, but doesn’t have a glaring weakness, so his size and intangibles will make him the choice here.
The Detroit Pistons could go a lot of directions with the 7th pick, and it wouldn’t shock me to see them opt for defense with a guy like Tari Eason from LSU, Jeremy Sochan from Baylor or even Jalen Duren from Memphis.
