NBA Draft Lottery: Pistons should hope the Spurs Fall

Contrary to what is written above, the Pistons should really hope that my beloved San Antonio Spurs do not do well in the lottery, as San Antonio is eying the exact same type of player that the Pistons want.

Both teams need a starting-caliber power forward, or even a center, depending on what happens with Marvin Bagley III or Jakob Poeltl in the offseason. Granted, the Pistons have an almost 40% chance at a top-four pick, and the Spurs are only at 20%, but the Spurs have had luck in the lottery before, and the Pistons, outside of Cade, have not. Other teams, like the Kings, Pelicans, Pacers, and Wizards are probably looking at a backcourt pick.

With Cade holding down the point guard spot for the next several seasons, some teams wouldn’t have a negative effect on the Pistons, even if they get to pick ahead of them. While it should be obvious that fans should hope the Pistons get the highest pick possible, the odds of that aren’t as great as one would like, so hoping the right teams get to pick ahead is important.

If the Spurs get on the board before Detroit, the Pistons might have to take their second or third guy, instead of who Weaver and Casey would prefer over everyone else. Getting the best player available who also fits well should be a top priority, but with other teams getting the possible opportunity to play ruiner, the Pistons should be holding their breath.
