Bismack Biyombo: Unrestricted free agent

Can we first stop to marvel at the fact that Biyombo is somehow only 29-years-old? It seems like I was blogging about this guy back in the early days of the Internet.

Even though he’s now in his 50th season in the league by my count, Biyombo is still a serviceable big who can block shots and shoot nearly 60 percent at the rim in very short bursts.

The Detroit Pistons may consider bringing in a third center (if they miss out on the big name) who can provide some toughness, veteran leadership and mentorship to the young bigs.

In that role, on a minimum deal, Biyombo could be an option.

JaVale McGee: Unrestricted free agent

McGee just keeps plugging along at age 34 and shows that if you can protect the rim, you’ll have a long career in the NBA. McGee was actually low-key good for the Suns in 74 games this season.

He averaged 9.2 points, 6.7 rebounds and 1.1 blocks in just 15.8 minutes per game, so he’s a guy who is not going to play big minutes but will be impactful when he’s in there.

I’d love him as a backup big/veteran mentor but McGee is undoubtedly chasing rings at this point in his career and will probably join the bench of a contender again.
