2022 NBA Draft: Johnny Davis and the Detroit Pistons

With a two-way skillset, along with his physical traits, it’s hard to imagine Davis not finding success in the NBA.

At twenty years old, he’s far from a finished project, but there’s plenty to be excited about at this stage. In Detroit, Davis would immediately fit in with Dwane Casey’s defensive mindset, and could slide in alongside Cade Cunningham in the backcourt, giving the Pistons a duo with plus size.

With his ability to get out and run, and create transition opportunities by playing the passing lanes and rebounding, Davis would thrive in running the lanes and leaking out for breakaway dunks.

Davis would also complement Cunningham incredibly well, as a willing scorer with the ability to run off screens, connect on pull-up jumpers, and get into the paint. Similar to Cunningham, Davis’ game is centered around his innate feel for the game and skillset, rather than pure athleticism.

Both guards, however, possess gifted physical traits that they’ll continue to benefit from as their games progress. With the Detroit Pistons searching for another foundational piece for their burgeoning young core, Davis’ game could prove to be a great fit on a youthful roster that is starting to take shape for the future.
