Detroit Pistons draft: Crazy possibilities for the top-5

Pick #4 and 5: The Pistons move back

With Jaden Ivey still on the board, the Detroit Pistons will have some options with the 4th and 5th picks in the draft. It’s likely that the Kings would want the 5th in any trade for the 4th, but since these are crazy scenarios, we’ll keep it in Detroit.

With the Pacers keen to get their hands on Ivey and Detroit suddenly expressing interest in him (seems like some gamesmanship on the part of Troy Weaver) the Pistons will be in a position to trade down two spots with Indiana.

With the Pistons threatening to take Ivy off the board, the Pacers are willing to give up a future 1st-round pick to move up two spots and take him.

Detroit grabs the 6th pick to go along with the 5th, takes Keegan Murray and either Shaedon Sharpe or Bennedict Mathurin and walks away from the 2022 NBA Draft with their starting lineup of the present and future:

  • Cade Cunningham
  • Shaedon Sharpe
  • Saddiq Bey
  • Keegan Murray
  • Isaiah Stewart

They would still be in a position to make a play for Deandre Ayton, so the Pistons wouldn’t be done making moves just yet.

Like I said, it is a pretty unlikely scenario, but so was Boston trading back from the #1 pick to get Tatum, so you never know what can happen in the NBA Draft.

This seems like a year when their might be some wild movement, so stay tuned.
