Detroit Pistons: 2022 NBA Draft mega-mailbag

The problem with throwing a bag at Ayton is that the Pistons would then have to wait on his decision before doing anything else, which could cause them to miss out on another guy. If Ayton is really the big target, I’d expect them to make smaller signings if they strike out. But the Pistons probably already have an idea of their chances with Ayton and may not even make an official offer.

I know Troy Weaver recently said that the Draft wouldn’t affect free agency, but that is obviously nonsense. Without knowing who they draft, it’s hard to say. I think an under-the-radar first-day offer possibility is Miles Bridges. The Hornets may not want to match and he seems like a Troy Weaver guy. Ayton is the obvious answer, and if the Pistons are really going to pursue him, it makes sense to do it sooner rather than later. The Brunson/Sexton talk seems to have died down,  and would probably die if they drafted a guard, so it may come down to Ayton or Bridges, but again, hard to say before the draft.

If I could choose one of those, I’d go with an explosive guard, as I think that is the type of player that would help Cade Cunningham the most. I think I’m ready to go on the record and say I hope the Pistons end up with Jaden Ivey.
