Cade Cunningham of the Detroit Pistons put the league on notice that there is a new superstar in the making with a strong finish to his rookie season.

One game in particular stood out, a late-season matchup with the Nets in which Cade went toe-to-toe with Kevin Durant, who said after the game that Cunningham and the Pistons were going to be a “force to be reckoned with” in the near future.

Summer League doesn’t kick off until tomorrow, but Cade Cunningham is already getting the work in, and recently ran with some of the elite of the NBA in a private workout in Los Angeles.

This informal and private session gave him the chance to go against the best in the league, and the game was loaded with talent, with players like Kevin Durant (who Cade has known since he was a kid), Kyrie Irving, Russell Westbrook and Domantas Sabonis participating among others:

It’s nice to be invited to something like this and it shows that the current stars of the NBA recognize the talent of the guys who are coming up behind them and will eventually take their place.

Detroit Pistons: Picture of Cade Cunningham and Kyrie Irving sends fans into frenzy

One picture from the session has gotten more attention than others, and that’s Cade Cunningham chatting with Kyrie Irving:

Because it is social media and people tend to lose all sense, fans were already speculating what this could possibly mean, but let’s put that to bed right now, as the Pistons aren’t going to be in the Kyrie Irving market (if there is one) and he’s a guy they should avoid at all costs.

I prefer to think Cade was explaining to him that the Earth is in fact, not flat. “Like I was saying, Kyrie, if you measure the shadows of two fixed points on the same meridian at the same time of day…”

In the end, this is just a bunch of guys playing basketball, but it’s good to see Cade Cunningham sharpening his skills against some of the best players on the planet, guys he will hopefully soon be beating in real games.
