Jaden Ivey injury update: Will he play again in Summer League?
Jaden Ivey had gotten off to an incredible start in the Detroit Pistons’ second game of the Summer League, scoring 11 points in just five minutes and looking like the best player on the floor.
But then Isaiah Todd slid beneath him on a jumper and Ivey landed on his foot, a play we have seen far too much of over the years, and the result was inevitable.
Ivey rolled his ankle and had to leave the game, but not before knocking down the three free-throws he was granted from the foul.
It was hopefully a good sign, but Pistons’ fans can’t help to think back to last season, when Cade Cunningham’s injured ankle set back the start to his career.
So far, things are looking good, as Jaden Ivey weighed in on Twitter to let nervous Pistons’ fans know that he was ok:
These four words are hardly a doctor’s prognosis, but hopefully an indication that the injury isn’t too serious.
Will Jaden Ivey play again in Summer League?
Regardless of what Ivey says on Twitter, I can’t see any possibility that he plays another minute in Summer League.
If you watch the play, he properly rolled that ankle and as someone who has recently had the same injury, it is hard to watch.
The Detroit Pistons aren’t going to risk the health of the #5 pick just to get some Summer League action, but the real question is whether this will set back his entire offseason, as ankle injuries can often take a long time to overcome, both physically and mentally, especially for a guy who relies so heavily on burst and athleticism.
Hopefully it’s a minor sprain and not something that is going to linger for the entire offseason, as the young Pistons need plenty of reps together to start building chemistry, especially in the backcourt, as they are now building around these two guards.
We should get an update from the team soon, but so far it looks as if we can breathe a sigh of relief that the X-Rays were negative and the injury isn’t that serious.
