The Detroit Pistons will tip off their preseason in the basketball Mecca known as Madison Square Garden tonight against the New York Knicks.

The Pistons and Knicks have been two of the worst teams in the NBA over the last 10 years, but have very different rosters, as the Knicks rely heavily on veterans while the Pistons will be one of the youngest teams in the NBA.

This will be the first time fans get to see Cade Cunningham and Jaden Ivey together, and Knicks’ fans will get their first look at Jalen Brunson in the backcourt.

One early thing to watch for is how Detroit handles smaller guards and whether Ivey gets most of the assignments against point guards while Cade takes on shooting guards and wings.

This will also be our first look at Bojan Bogdanovic, who came to Detroit in a recent trade that looks like a huge win for the Pistons. The Knicks’ will have the size advantage in the front court, so it will be interesting to see how Detroit goes after their bigs on both ends.

It is only preseason of course, but we will start to get some answers about the rotation and roles for certain players.

Detroit Pistons vs New York Knicks: Odds, Spread, Over/Under

According to FanDuel, the Pistons are four point underdogs on the road against the Knicks. The money line is set at +142 for Detroit and -176 for New York, so you can get nice odds on the Pistons if you are degenerate who is into betting on preseason games.

There is not yet an over/under for points in this game, and might not be, as it is preseason and too difficult for the books to predict.

Pistons injury report

Detroit has a number of injuries that could affect their early rotations. Alec Burks, Nerlens Noel and Kevin Knox (three guys who used to play for the Knicks) were all limited in training camp, listed as day-to-day and not expected to play in the first preseason game.

Detroit Pistons vs. New York Knicks: Prediction

It’s tough to say who will win this one considering that both teams will likely empty their benches and play guys who will not be on the regular-season roster.

I like the Pistons to push the pace early and take advantage of the Knicks in transition with both Cade and Ivey looking to take it to the rim and kick out to the shooters if there isn’t anything there. The question will be which team can take advantage of their differences in size, as Detroit will have to keep their bigs off the offensive glass and hopefully exploit them on the other end with their quickness.

I think Cade Cunningham is going to come out and dominate the Knicks’ guards and that Detroit will get their first win of the preseason behind stronger bench play.
