Detroit Pistons: Miami does not have right trade package for Bogdanovic
Trade talks around Bojan Bogdanovic of the Detroit Pistons have cooled in recent weeks after a flurry of teams reportedly called Detroit about the availability of the sharpshooter.
Detroit seems content with keeping Bogdanovic, as they hope to turn the corner as a franchise next season and will need veterans like him to complement their young talent.
But if the Pistons do decide to move Bogdanovic, they have all of the leverage, especially in negotiations with teams like the Lakers, who are far more desperate and will have to make it worth the Pistons’ time.
Detroit is reportedly seeking a young starting caliber player and/or a 1st-round pick, with teams like the Suns probably being the closest to having the right combination of assets.
Another team reportedly looking for reinforcements is the Miami Heat, who would love to add a scorer like Bogdanovic to a team that is currently 7th in the Eastern Conference standings.
But do the Heat really have the assets to get it done?
Detroit Pistons: Miami Heat trade for Bojan Bogdanovic
Miami fans have been putting out all manner of fake trades over the last few weeks, and some have recently set their sites on Bogdanovic.
Here is one trade that I have seen floating around in various spaces, though there is no official report about any offers being made:
There are so many reasons why the Detroit Pistons would hang up the phone, throw it out the window and never speak of this again.
The first is that Duncan Robinson stinks and is locked into a terrible contract that will pay him around $19 million a season through 2025-26, though the final year is only partially guaranteed.
Robinson is 28-years-old and having his worst season since his rookie year, averaging just seven points per game and shooting 33 percent from 3-point range. Hard pass.
The Heat are going to to have to grease a team with a first-round pick just to take Robinson’s contract, so if he is involved, there had better be two first-round picks on the table.
Also, adding Bogdanovic would undoubtedly make the Heat better, so the 2023 pick (the only asset in this deal) will likely be in the 20’s, which is not enough to get the Pistons to move off Bogdanovic, who is much better than Robinson and that pick are ever likely to be.
It’s looking more like the Detroit Pistons will stay out of any big deals for Bogdanovic, but one like this isn’t going to move the needle, as it makes the Pistons worse now and tacks dead money onto their payroll just for a roll of the dice on a late first-round pick.
