You can’t open Twitter or look at an NBA website without seeing a fake trade involving the Detroit Pistons these days.

Since Detroit is at the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings and has a couple of valuable veterans, it makes sense, so we’ve seen ideas sending Bojan Bogdanovic and Alec Burks to just about every team in contention, and some that are not (I’m looking at you, Lakers).

The Pistons are trying to raise their value by saying they don’t really want to trade them, and have held firm that they won’t make a move unless the deal nets them a “tremendous return.”

Proposed trade of Alec Burks to the Pelicans is garbage. light. Related Story

What actually constitutes a tremendous return could change as the trade deadline gets closer and teams in the running get more desperate to add talent to their rosters for a playoff run.

Any contending team could use Bogdanovic or Burks, so the Detroit Pistons have all of the leverage here, especially considering they have no real urgency to move them. Both players are on good deals, can help their young roster grow and would be valuable pieces next season if Detroit really chases their stated goal of being competitive.

Trading their only two good veterans for late first-round picks is not going to achieve that goal, so I suspect the Pistons will balk at making such a deal. But what if the trade brought back young talent that might be a better fit with their core?

This wild Bleacher Report trade would be one such deal.
