Possible Detroit Pistons free agent option: Stanley Johnson

A Stanley Johnson-to-Detroit reunion seems somewhat likely eventually. The eighth-year forward even hinted at it himself earlier this season.

Johnson was waived by the Spurs on Sunday, after a strong stint as a reserve in San Antonio this season. He’s shooting 45 percent from three this year, which is the best rate of his career by a landslide, although on minimal attempts.

For Detroit, he can help the team on both ends. He’s a strong defender, which the Detroit Pistons need as many of those as possible right now. Johnson was debatably the best defensive wing on the Los Angeles freakin’ Lakers just last season.

He can also guard bigger players at his position. That versatility would benefit the Pistons in potential Johnson minutes.

I’m sure that his preference is to join a contender. But, if a playoff team doesn’t come calling, why not Detroit?
