Detroit Pistons: The NBA Draft and free agency

Given Bogdanovic’s career so far, it’s likely that he’ll still be a productive player for the Detroit Pistons, but they still need plenty of help.

Detroit is now without a real small forward, though they have guys like Isaiah Livers and Hamidou Diallo who can man the position.

But without a true starting level small forward who can defend, this team is not going to improve much next season, even when they get Cade Cunningham back.

There are a ton of question marks around how this current roster fits together, as Weaver has been more concerned about winning transactions than putting tougher a cohesive team that makes sense.

That is fine while Detroit is still tanking, but next season, there has to be some semblance of a team, not just a bunch of guys who were high draft picks.

Weaver needs to nail the draft, whether he gets the top pick or not, and has to find some free agents and/or trades that bind this team together into a functional unit.

He can’t waste spots on Kevin Knox or Cory Joseph types, but needs to find guys we know can play, defend and complement the players already on the roster. Weaver has yet to build a real team in Detroit and this has to be the offseason when he starts trying by adding players who are good fits and can play.

But it’s also important that he doesn’t make the wrong signings.
