The Pistons do a 3-way trade for Jaylen Brown
The biggest trade assets the Detroit Pistons have are Cade Cunningham, Jaden Ivey, their 2023 pick and Jalen Duren.
Cunningham is untouchable, but any of the other three could be on the table depending on where the Pistons ending up landing in the NBA Draft Lottery. The number one pick isn’t getting traded, but if the Pistons got pick #2 or lower, it is a possibility.
The #2 pick would certainly have some value for any team looking for a lead guard, but that team probably isn’t the Boston Celtics. It’s hard to imagine them doing a rebuild around Tatum during his prime years. They would more likely want at least one veteran player in return, and I don’t think Bojan Bogdanovic and the 2nd pick are quite enough to get it done.
But if the Pistons were to involve a third team that had a veteran star and might want to start a rebuild, who knows. Portland is one possibility with Damian Lillard, but would a Lillard/Tatum tandem really be better? Hard to see Boston biting.
The Wizards with Beal? Doubtful. There aren’t many teams with a player equivalent to Brown who aren’t already on big contracts of their own, in which case, Boston may as well keep him.
The Boston/Brown situation is well worth monitoring, and if he becomes available, the Detroit Piston should absolutely be picking up the phone, but it’s hard to envision a scenario where it works out.
