Detroit Pistons: Rasheed Wallace rips into Doc River’s coaching style
Rasheed Wallace talked a big game when he was with the Detroit Pistons, but he always backed it up on the court.
He was known as a smart, but emotional player, who would sometimes allow that emotion to lead to technical fouls that started to become his trademark along with his elite defense and offensive skill.
Rasheed has since gone on to become a coach, and a guy who the Pistons should consider reuniting with at some point, as he’d be a great mentor to their young bigs.
Wallace is no stranger to controversy, and drummed up a little more recently with some harsh criticism of Doc Rivers after the Philadelphia 76ers flamed out in the playoffs.
Detroit Pistons: Rasheed Wallace rips into Doc River’s coaching style
I don’t think that anyone would argue that Doc Rivers is a good coach, as he has won everywhere he’s been and his teams have consistently been in the playoffs. He’s one of the active coaches that has won a title, but he is also amassing a record of blowing leads in the playoffs, which could end up being his legacy unfortunately:
Rasheed Wallace recency made an appearance on the Underdog Fantasy podcast and had plenty to say about why Doc Rivers has come up short so many times when leading in the playoffs. Be warned, as usual with Sheed, there is some spicy language:
This is certainly something for the Detroit Pistons to consider in their coaching search, as ultimately you not only need a guy who can handle the locker room and deal with all of the egos and personalities of the players, but one who can make adjustments in the big moments when something isn’t working.
It seems a bit unfair to put this on Doc Rivers considering the way Joel Embiid and James Harden played in game seven, as well as the fact that the Boston Celtics are a very good team, so it’s not like they were beaten by an underdog.
But until Doc wins another title, these kinds of criticisms are going to follow him, especially if his teams keep blowing leads in the playoffs.
