Detroit Pistons: 4 stars that might be traded this summer
Jaylen Brown
Teams around the league are watching this situation in Boston closely, as the Celtics look cooked and are getting their butts handed to them by the Heat, which could cause some changes this summer.
Most people are blaming the coach (convenient) and not the stars of course, because everyone knows that players don’t lose games, coaches do (extreme sarcasm font). Yes, you can point to some coaching mistakes, but when your two star players crap the bed in the playoffs, it’s going to be hard to win.
That’s what’s happening in Boston, as Tatum is averaging just 26 per game vs. the Heat and has been busted from 3-point range, and Brown is getting just 16.6 per game, and is also suddenly unable to hit a shot from long range.
If the Celtics get swept by the 8th seed, there are going to be calls for Joe Mazzulla’s head (this after many Boston fans thought he should have won Coach of the Year) and there may be questions about whether investing $600 million combined for Tatum and Brown is worth it.
After Brown made All-NBA, the price tag for his next contact went up, and after these playoffs, the Celtics may be looking for a soft reboot around Tatum instead.
Trading for Brown is probably a pipe dream, as the Pistons aren’t likely to want to give up what it would take and the Celtics won’t take less, as they’ll have other offers.
A Miami sweep could be enough to get Brown on the market, but whether the Detroit Pistons would be in the mix for his services is an entirely different affair.
