3. Pistons and Pacers make a win-win swap?

Could these two put their division rivalry aside to make a win-win swap? Indiana has too many wings, and the Pistons have too many big men. Could they pull off a trade to even things out?

Nesmith has just one year left on his contract before becoming a restricted free agent in the summer of 2024. Could Detroit work out an extension to keep him long-term? The former lottery pick averaged 10.1 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 0.8 steals in 24.9 minutes per game last season for the Pacers. There are questions about his defense, but the 23-year-old still has room to improve.

Marvin Bagley could slot into the frontcourt next to Myles Turner, which would take the pressure off the current Piston to protect the rim. Turner is an elite shot-blocker, and Bagley could be used as a scorer, rebounder, and help defender.

Is this the perfect trade for Detroit? Certainly not, but they are not negotiating from a position of strength. Other teams know they have too many big men, which may drive the price down. The Pistons should be focused on getting a better defender than Aaron Nesmith, but they must find a team in need of a big man to make that happen.
