The Detroit Pistons defeated the San Antonio Spurs in the fourth and final game of their Summer League schedule.

The Pistons missed the playoffs, so their Summer League is complete and they and now turn their attention to the grind of the offseason.

Detroit was once again led by Ausar Thompson, who ended the game with 18 points, 14 rebounds and a dunk that had the Internet buzzing:

Hops? To say the least. This looked more like Ausar found a stepping stool somewhere in mid-air and jumped for a second time. The rookie led a late comeback for the second game in a row and was once again a standout on both ends.

He was disruptive on defense, made the right plays on offense and even knocked down a couple of 3-point shots. Not to mention this dunk, which will be added to his growing highlight reel, which is already impressive considering he’s not even played a real game.

So Ausar had the dunk of the night, but the quote of the night definitely belongs to head coach Monty Williams, who likes what he’s seen from his two rookies. Maybe a bit too much.

After the game, Monty Williams was asked about his two rookies and he gave them the highest (and weirdest) praise a coach (and father) can give:

He was going along just fine there for a second with the toughness and winning plays but I had to do a double take to make sure I got that last part right.

I’m just going to leave that one there and take it in the spirit in which I am sure it was said, which is that Williams is happy with the effort of his two rookies and excited to coach them in the upcoming season.

The Detroit Pistons finished with a 3-1 record in the Summer League and there is plenty to be excited about as we head into the offseason.
