Detroit Pistons: Greatest player at each height

6’0″

Allen Iverson

Dick McGuire – For those who don’t know, McGuire played in Detroit for three seasons, the last of which ended in 1960. The Pistons made the postseason each time, but never got real far. During the ’58-’59 season, McGuire averaged 9.2 points per game, to go along with 6.2 assists and 4 rebounds a game. For a crusty old man who was in the final stage of his career, he did alright.

But then there is Allen Iverson, who was surely disappointing while he was a Piston, but was also surely still Allen Iverson. Iverson had already spent 16 years playing NBA basketball prior to arriving to the D (enter casino joke here). His acquisition generated quite a bit of excitement as the team had been in decline ever since losing to the Spurs in the 2005 NBA Finals. Iverson, who President of Basketball Operations Joe Dumars had coveted for some time, showed the world that his best days were behind him once he donned the red, white and blue of the Detroit Pistons. He initially came off of the bench but chafed at that and entered the starting lineup in his fifth game with the team. The results from that moment on were…unspectacular.

Prior to arriving to Detroit, Allen Iverson was a four-time NBA scoring champion. In Detroit, he averaged just 17.4 per night. Maybe that isn’t bad for a 6’, 33 year-old guard, but Bubba Chuck lived up to his nickname for those 54 magical games thanks to his 41.6% field goal percentage and 28.6% accuracy from long range.

Nevertheless, the electricity he brought to The Palace during his first handful of games wearing the hometown jersey, coupled with his historical legacy, makes it hard not to place him at the top of the list of 6’ tall Pistons.
