The Detroit Pistons have several pathways to upgrade their roster this offseason, but it's safe to say that most eyes are locked in on free agency and the trade market.

Detroit doesn't have a top pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, but that doesn't mean draft night should completely be overlooked for the PIstons, especially considering the position they're in could quietly be the perfect sweet spot to capitalize on other teams' decisions.

Holding the No. 21 overall selection, the Pistons are in the range of the first round where they could find a lottery-level talent falling to them, or they could use their mid-round selection as a trade chip to bolster their roster with more proven talent.

Regardless of what the team elects to do, it's clear that Trajan Langdon has plenty of options moving forward.

Pistons are in the perfect spot to stop a lottery skid

Every season, it feels like a lottery talent slides to the point many wonder how they fell that far.

It's happened to talents like Gilbert Arenas, Dejounte Murray, OG Anunoby, and most recently, Cam Whitmore.

At this point, it's expected for at least one top player to fall, whether it's due to character concerns, injury history, or measurements.

For the Pistons, they're sitting in the perfect position to end the slide for a lottery talent and land a player they didn't anticipate would make it to them leading up to draft night.

It also presents the opportunity that if a lottery-caliber prospect does fall to their range, that pick immediately becomes far more valuable to teams on the trade market, which could lead to Detroit finding leverage they didn't expect to have for a draft night move.

Pistons first-round pick will have more value on draft night

As of now, it's hard to anticipate how the board will fall on June 23, but there's no doubt that if Langdon and the Pistons have made it clear behind closed doors that they're open for business, Detroit's selection will be circled as a pick that many will call about when it gets closer to their selection.

If Langdon plays his cards right, the Pistons could be in a position to capitalize on opposing teams' decisions that make his job much easier.

Whether that comes with a draft night trade that lands the Pistons a win-now player like a Naji Marshall, used in a bigger deal, or a top young talent is unknown, but it's safe to say that the Pistons have several solid options to choose from.
