It’s no secret that the Detroit Pistons need to add another offensive talent to play alongside Cade Cunningham this summer. And based on recent Giannis Antetokounmpo rumors, Jaylen Brown could potentially become available. Should that become reality, the Pistons need to at least inquire about a potential deal for Brown.
Brown is expensive. He would cost a pretty penny if the Milwaukee Bucks flip him to a third team. But adding his offense alongside Cunningham would certainly help the Pistons rise up the ranks of the Eastern Conference. Brown would likely even get to compete against his then-former team, the Boston Celtics, in some heated seeding battles.
It may not be perfect, but if Brown gets traded, the Pistons need to at least look into the possibility of snatching him.
Pistons should check in about Jaylen Brown if Giannis joins Celtics
The Bucks don’t want Brown. All recent rumblings have indicated that they would want to flip Brown to a third team. Marc Stein of The Stein Line even noted that the Atlanta Hawks, Portland Trail Blazers, and Houston Rockets could be interested suitors.
Brown would make sense for all three of those teams. Each of them could use an extra infusion of offense to play alongside their stars. Brown would provide that in bunches.
But because of that, the Pistons should also do their due diligence and check in with the Bucks if Brown does end up getting shipped there in an Antetokounmpo trade.
Brown was just named to the All-NBA Second Team this past year. He was one of the best offensive engines in the league, leading a Jayson Tatum-less Celtics team to the second seed in the Eastern Conference.
Detroit could theoretically combine Duncan Robinson, Isaiah Stewart, and Caris LeVert’s contracts in a deal to land Brown. That said, they would have to add some significant draft capital to the deal in order to get it over the finish line.
Obviously, the Pistons would have to outdo any other offers the Bucks might get for Brown, but at the very least, they need to ask about the possibility of a trade.
A Cunningham-Brown duo would be an absolute force in the East, and with the New York Knicks’ championship, it’s never been harder to win in the conference.
Brown would give Cunningham the offensive support he desperately needs. Another guy who’s great with the ball in his hands and can get a bucket at any time.
If he becomes available, the Pistons need to check in.
