Javonte Green has successfully completed a full campaign in his first season with the Pistons, becoming the only Piston to play in all 82 games this season. His steady presence has been a huge boost for the Pistons, who have faced injury struggles to other key players. Despite everything else that the Pistons endured, they could always rely on Green to provide tough defense and the occasional three-point shot off the bench.

Javonte Green was an ironman for the Pistons

Green finished the season with strong averages of 7 points, 3 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game in just 17.6 minutes per game. His defense is a clear strong point, but his 38% shooting from three made him a strong two-way option that the Pistons needed. When he was hitting his outside shots, Green was a valuable backup wing without any major weaknesses.

Being able to play all 82 games is rare in today's NBA, and even more so for a player at Green's age and intensity. In his 7th season at age 32, he was able to manage the Herculean task. And Green does legitimately play as hard as anyone on Detroit's roster, regardless of the situation or opponent at hand.

Green has surpassed all expectations

When Green was originally signed, there were a lot of questions about his fit on the Pistons next to their other non-shooters and defenders. But Green has quickly answered those doubts and produced beyond expectations. His offense has been refreshing for the bench unit, and he's proven to be one of the best help defenders in the league.

Along with other defensive wrecking balls such as Ron Holland II and Ausar Thompson, Green has locked down opposing wings and helped the Pistons dominate defensively. For all the fair criticisms of the Pistons' shooting and half-court offense, it's their defense that often decides games. And Green's role in the defense should not be understated.

His steal rate is actually one of the highest in the NBA considering his low minutes. That's a perfect example of his defensive playmaking, which allows the Pistons to turn defense into quick baskets on the other end. Even when Green isn't directly involved in a play on defense, he can blow it up to help the team lock down.

And Green has been a great veteran presence for the Pistons too. He's bounced around the NBA and other leagues throughout his career, so he knows the feeling of playing in different roles. With that, he's able to offer guidance for any of the Pistons' young stars regardless of their position or standing. Having him play all 82 games sets a great example and gives the Pistons a steady level of emotional maturity too.
