Fans of the Detroit Pistons are counting down to the end of this miserable season when we can forget it ever happened and move on to the future.

What that future will hold is unclear, as the Pistons need wholesale change, but will they have the guts to make it? Pistons fans are used to the contradictory notion of cheering against the team, as we've been subjected to four years of some form of tanking, including this season when they were just bad.

What to cheer for (and against) as this season winds down shows more of the contradiction of being a Pistons fan during the Troy Weaver era.

3 Things Pistons fans should root for, 3 to root against to close season

Cheer for: The Detroit Pistons to end with the worst record in franchise history

This is likely to happen whether you cheer for it or not, as the Pistons need to win three of their final seven games to even tie the team's worst record.

I hate tanking and normally never cheer for Detroit to lose, but in this case, I'll make an exception. I want Troy Weaver, Monty Williams and Tom Gores to feel the embarrassment and for this to prompt some kind of action.

Maybe having the worst record will be all the proof Gores needs to make big changes this offseason. I hate to say it, but I hope the Pistons lose out so there might be some accountability.

Cheer against: Any late run that causes a glimmer of hope

Normally I would want the team to play well down the stretch and carry some positive momentum and vibes into the offseason, but not this year. The last thing we need is for the Pistons to go on a meaningless win streak late in the season that makes Weaver and Co. feel like they have figured something out.

Luckily, this is unlikely to happen, and even if they did, it couldn't possibly be enough to wash off the stink of a 28-game losing streak. But considering what needs to be done this offseason, we don't even need a glimmer of hope blinding the Pistons owner or front office.
