Now that the dust has settled from the NBA Draft Lottery and the Detroit Pistons have the 5th pick again, we can start to look at how the new president of basketball operations can retool the roster this offseason.

That search is going poorly, as the Pistons were denied their first interview request (Jon Horst of the Bucks) and turned down by Neil Olshey, former GM of the Portland Trail Blazers.

With new names emerging, and the possibility the Pistons are waiting for Tim Connelly of Minnesota, it may be weeks before the Pistons have a decision maker, so any moves right now, from who the Pistons will select in the draft, to trades and free agency are even more speculative than usual.

Will the Detroit Pistons make a big trade?

This is likely the most important question for the new president, as there aren’t a lot of impact free agents available, so the Pistons may have to make their move via trade.

We’ve seen some doozies thrown around so far, most of which have the Pistons sending out one or more of their top young players along with either this year’s #5 pick or draft assets from the distant future.

But what if the Pistons could land an impact talent without having to give up any of their top young guys? That’s what happens in a recent trade proposal that seems to be too good to be true for Detroit.
