Former Detroit Pistons who took home gold in the Olympics
By Douglas Doty
Adrian Dantley - 1976 Montréal Olympics (USA)
Before every playing a minute in the NBA, Adrian Dantley was an Olympic gold medalist; a good one at that. At only 21 years-old, Dantley was the leading scorer on the 1976 USA team, averaging 19.3 PPG and racking up 5.7 RPG in the country's winning run. Dantley was arguably the most important player in helping team USA bounce back after suffering their first every non-gold placement the games' prior.
Dantley spend three seasons in the latter half of his NBA career in Detroit, where he averaged an outstanding 20.3 PPG in that span. Unfortunately for Dantley, he was traded midway through the 1989 season before the Pistons won the Finals.
Phil Hubbard - 1976 Montréal Olympics (USA)
Alongside Adrian Dantley was big man Phil Hubbard. Hubbard, also an Olympian while still in college, averaged 4.7 PPG and 3.8 RPG contributing to the gold medal-winning effot. Not to mention, Hubbard did all of this while shooting 52% from the floor. Hubbard also put up 10 points in the winning game against Yugoslavia.
The former Michigan Wolverine was selected by the Pistons with the 15th overall pick in the 1979 NBA Draft, which he continued with a rather average career. In his three seasons with Detroit prior to being traded in 1982, Hubbard averaged 11.6 PPG on 6 RPG.
