The Detroit Pistons are in a tough position.
They need to make sweeping changes to the roster, but so far the trade market pickings have been slim and it's unclear if any of Detroit's trade assets are even valued by other teams.
The speculation we've heard most frequently attaches the Pistons to Zach LaVine, which would be the exact kind of desperation move Detroit needs to avoid.
The Toronto Raptors have also been mentioned as possible sellers, but Pascal Siakam and OG Anunoby will be free agents at the end of the season, so trading all of their assets for either one would be a big risk, as you can't assume any free agent wants to play in Detroit right now.
According to recent reports, another team may be selling off assets at the deadline and they have far better options for the Pistons.
The Utah Jazz are a team to watch for the Pistons
According to insider Marc Stein (SUBSCRIPTION), the Utah Jazz are expected to make several players available if they continue to falter and may have some interesting options for the Pistons:
"And now we laser in on the Jazz. Jordan Clarkson, Collin Sexton and Kelly Olynyk, for starters, are frequently mentioned by rival executives as players Utah is believed to be willing to trade. "
Clarkson or Olynyk could be options for the Pistons depending on the price, as Detroit could use a big who can shoot and a guy who is a professional scorer off the bench.
Clarkson's shooting numbers have dipped this season, but he's only owed $14 million in each of the next two seasons, so he'd be a cheap option who has proven he can get buckets.
But the Pistons should hold out for another Utah player who would be the ideal addition to the roster.
